*Review* Ignite Me (Shatter Me) – Tahereh Mafi

The heart-stopping conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, which Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, called “a thrilling, high-stakes saga of self-discovery and forbidden love.”

With Omega Point destroyed, Juliette doesn’t know if the rebels, her friends, or even Adam are alive. But that won’t keep her from trying to take down The Reestablishment once and for all. Now she must rely on Warner, the handsome commander of Sector 45. The one person she never thought she could trust. The same person who saved her life. He promises to help Juliette master her powers and save their dying world . . . but that’s not all he wants with her.

The Shatter Me series is perfect for fans who crave action-packed young adult novels with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu. Tahereh Mafi has created a captivating and original story that combines the best of dystopian and paranormal, and was praised by Publishers Weekly as “a gripping read from an author who’s not afraid to take risks.” Now this final book brings the series to a shocking and satisfying end.

My Review: 6 Stars out of 5!! ******

I can’t deal….

I can’t have the end, the last we will read of Juliette and Warner’s story…

I am pouting, stamping my feet and in denial this is truly the end.

I had put Ignite Me to the back burner while I caught up on other books I had bought and shoved aside. I now am certain I made a good decision to wait, why? Was it that bad, was it an ugly conclusion to a wonderful story?

NO…..it was so bloody brilliant, I was taken on the ride of my life. I was like ‘woah’, then ‘eeeek’ then holding my breath, then on the edge of my seat…..then at the end I was face planted. The residual effect of reading the best damn book this year so far, and it’s story coming to an end. I need to find me the nearest SMA group so I can meet with like minded addicts (Shatter Me Anonymous)

I need to find me a Warner, a Kenji and yes even a Juliette (I developed such a girl crush on her but shoosh, don’t say anything)

The ride Ms Mafi takes us on in this book is truly amazing (I will try to keep the review as spoiler free as I can). The growth of Juliette is a delight to read, no more ‘cry baby cry, please someone protect me’ No, she grows some balls, she gets to grip with her ‘affliction’

She becomes badass bitch on the hunt for Anderson.

Adam, oh Adam! His ride was a little more of a spiral off the ledge. That journey when your world falls apart and the bitter monster inside you takes over your blood and reeks havoc.

Kenji….come to Momma Kenji. He is, and will always remain the best book friend I dream of having in real life.

Then there is Warner, I left him until last because seriously, can I have you please. Just for the day, an hour. Okay, I’ll take a minute if it’s going spare. He is an ocean of contradictions, a sea of hidden depths and secrets. I was rooting for him all along, well maybe since book two.

There is a scene, its his mother’s birthday and, well lets just say I had to put down my kindle and go to the bathroom to sob my eyes out. Then there his love for Juliette…..such devotion, such heart break and so endless. I wanting to drown in it, it was so palpable.

Then there was the ending, I have to say I hated it!! Not in a bad way, Ms Mafi has her reasons for having the story end where it did, but no matter how many times I read it, it felt like it wasn’t the end rather than a beginning of more….

A girl can dream. This was utterly fantastic, I’m a void of nothingness now. But I’m happy. Thank you Ms Mafi for a wonderful ride…..Now can we make the movie please?

*Review* Unravel Me (Shatter Me #2) – Tahereh Mafi

it’s almost
time for war.

Juliette has escaped to Omega Point. It is a place for people like her—people with gifts—and it is also the headquarters of the rebel resistance.

She’s finally free from The Reestablishment, free from their plan to use her as a weapon, and free to love Adam. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch.

Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible.

In this exhilarating sequel to Shatter Me, Juliette has to make life-changing decisions between what she wants and what she thinks is right. Decisions that might involve choosing between her heart—and Adam’s life.

Unravel Me

My Review: 5 Out of 5 Stars ***** Read 12/3/2013

Oh Lordy me, I am undone!! Completely, I have no words (well actually I do) but I am stunned, shocked and well I have no idea which team to bat for!!

Team Adam, Team Warner, Team Adam, Team Warner Argggggh, I’ve no clue!! I think I’m on Team Kenji! (I know he isn’t in the running, but hey he gorgeous…and funny and I loved him in this book.

So, Juliette is safe in the confines of Omega Point, she is having to train and harness her gift. She should be happy right? she has Adam right? She is out of Warner’s clutches right? Wrong! The first part of this book was dealing with her insecurities, he inability to work out how she can use her gift. How she can be super human hulk one minute and cowering wreck the next.

I didn’t like it, but I understood it. Oh the heart wrenching reaction to watching Adam try to understand how he can touch her, to the realization she could kill him in a moment of forgetfulness was wonderful.

Just as I was tiring of her whiny ways in steps the beautifully awesome Kenji and he tells her what’s up. Oh Kenji, you are my new book boyfriend! *Sigh* She couldn’t snap out of it at a better moment, Four of the Omega’s have been kidnapped by Warner’s dad, the deliciously evil Anderson. If you think Warner is bad wait until you get a load of daddy.

On a mission to “trade” Juliette for them she finally gets to grip with her anger, I was fanfirling in the stands when she gave him both barrels, I really couldn’t understand why Kenji had to spoil her little party (but it was explained later on)

Back at the compound they have Warner hostage and Castle wants Juliette to gain information on Winston and Brandon (who are still missing) Boy, oh boy. Talk about steam fest, I was completely undone (yes I said it again) at the unfolding story between Juliette and Warner.

I was in love, I was confused, I had my pom poms going rooting for Warner, then just like Juliette I remembered Adam. Wonderful, angst ridden Adam.

The final chapters were delightfully filled with “What the Hell” moments it was divine. I love this story, I have no idea who the heck I’m cheering on but come the next installment “I’m leaving my gloves behind” Awesome story, Tahereh writes pure magic.

*Review* Shatter Me (Shatter Me # 1) – Tahereh Mafi

“You can’t touch me,” I whisper.

I’m lying, is what I don’t tell him.

He can touch me, is what I’ll never tell him.

But things happen when people touch me.

Strange things.

Bad things.

No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal, but The Reestablishment has plans for her. Plans to use her as a weapon.

But Juliette has plans of her own.

After a lifetime without freedom, she’s finally discovering a strength to fight back for the very first time—and to find a future with the one boy she thought she’d lost forever.

Shatter Me

My Review: 5 out of 5 Stars ***** Read 12/1/2013

Why, oh why don’t I listen to my daughter more often?! This is yet another book (series) she has been banging on at me to read and I’ve said I would but never did. So, because it’s been the holidays and I’ve been promising myself I would read those books I am not necessarily reading to blog review. I picked this one up.

OMG, OMG, OMG OMG I have no idea what the heck took me so long. This is a gem of a story and yes I loved it. It starts with Juliette, locked up, away from the world in isolation for 264 days. The beginning was bleaker than the Siberian wasteland on a winter’s day! She has a curse, one touch of her skin can kill a person, it already had.

She then gets a cell mate, a boy, a boy from her past. A boy she cannot forget, but he has forgotten her. Adam tries his hardest to get to know Juliette but she simply won’t let him.

Inexplicably she is released and told there are bigger plans for her, plans if she follows the rules she will live like the leader of the Reestablishment. Only she doesn’t quite know what or who to trust, the soldier entrusted with guarding her is non other than Adam.

She then meets Warner, the leader. He is power-hungry and crazier than a mad man on speed, and he wants Juliette to be his weapon. Juliette is determined to be anything but his puppet, that is until Warner hurts Adam, has her touching soldiers and saving innocent toddlers (told you he was crazy.

What I loved the most about this story was its uniqueness, a dystopian/paranormal romance. I liked the way Tahereh opened Juliette up from a frightened, broken 17 year old to being able to slowly trust Adam. To her quiet determination not to be manipulated.

I liked the twists and turns of Adam, a boy who didn’t appear to remember Juliette, to what he actually knew about her (new book boyfriend!) To Warner’s deep unmitigated manipulation that would slow Juliette down and make her question everything.

The unfolding love story between Adam and Juliette had me cheering, especially when she found out he could touch her and not be harmed. The adventure started when they decided to escape the clutches of Warner, there is one more shocker revealed before they get away.

But Warner is obsessed by Juliette even more than I am with M&M peanuts and you know he isn’t going to let them go without a fight. He isn’t going to let Adam just take off with her. There is double-crossing, lies and cover ups. Kenji….loved, loved, loved him. He definitely needs his own story. Smart ass and funny, a girl could get addicted.

Was he working for Warner, was he telling the truth of a safe place, was he after Juliette for himself. So many questions there were sparks coming off my finger tips trying to turn the page of the iPad!

Juliette grew from a timid, broken child to a no-nonsense heroine. Don’t get between her and her man, that’s all I’m saying. Could they out run Warner a second time? Could they trust Kenji? and could Adam survive long enough to live? It was an assault on my emotions, well written and edge of the seat…

Then we get to the world of Omega Point, a world where Juliette realizes she isn’t a freak but gifted. A world of X Men. It sets up the next book UnRavel Me perfectly, I can’t wait to read what Warner will do next, what exactly is Adam and will Kenji get himself a girl…..
