*Review* The Raven Boys (The Raven Cycle #1) – Maggie Stiefvater

raven *5 out of 5 Stars ***** Read 8-26-2013
WOW, WOW & Triple WOW.
This book is amazing, what a find, what a read, what a ride. I was hooked from the very first page. Maggie’s writing, character’s, storytelling is little short of amazing!
The story centers on Blue Sargent and her kookie Mom & Aunt’s (some real, some only partial) and their ability as psychics. Or so it would seem, there seems to be several stories in this books all interwoven and richly wrote.
Every year on St Mark’s day eve Blue goes to corpses road to gather the names of those that will die in the coming year. This year she goes with her rather mysterious Aunt Neeve. For the first time she see’s a corpse, something she hadn’t done in previous years. It means she either kills that person, or she loves them!!
Enter Gansey, Ronan, Adam & Noah, the first 2 rich, privileged, & handsome yet each of them flawed. All are students of the exclusive Aglionby school and they are known as The Raven Boys (The school logo), they all have a story to tell.
Enter also their Latin teacher Barrington Whelk, bitter, twisted and poor. He has his own story too.
They are all looking for the same thing, how to open the Ley Line, and a fabled Welsh king, that if resurrected will give them what they want.
The weaving of their stories together was outstanding, the anticipation of a love story between Blue and who would be her true love tantalizing and the pace as the momentum picked up gripping and at times terrifying. I couldn’t put this book down, it is by far the best she has done (I tried her wolves series and I couldn’t quite connect) WOW, yes again, I’ve got her upcoming 2nd to review for its upcoming release on September 17th…..I cannot wait to continue one….
